Maldives, on Thursday, has welcomed 2025’s two millionth tourist.
Prior to this, Maldives has only recorded two million tourist arrivals in 2024.
The two millionth tourist of 2025 is Bethany Sarah Kerswell, a 30-year-old female from England, UK, who arrived at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Thursday morning.
A special ceremony was held at VIA to commemorate the milestone and welcome Karswell, a first-time visitor to the Maldives, who traveled with her husband, for her honeymoon.

The ceremony, held at the airport waterfront, brought together representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Visit Maldives Corporation, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Service, other government agencies, industry partners, NGOs, and media. Karswell was presented with commemorative gifts and a holiday voucher by the Minister of Tourism and representatives from Visit Maldives, MACL, Customs, Immigration, and event sponsors.
She will be spending her stay at Outrigger Maafushivaru.
Karswell’s arrival marks the earliest-ever crossing of the two million – reflecting the strong performance of the tourism sector throughout the year. It also places Maldives firmly on track to reach the national target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of 2025.
