Maldives partners with Badshah to promote luxury escapes to Indians

One of the most high-profile tourism campaign of the year, aimed at the Indian market, concluded successfully with a four-day visit to the Maldives by internationally renowned Indian musician, television personality and Indian Idol judge Badshah.
The visit was organised under Visit Maldives Corporation's (VMC) Cultural Ambassador programme and hosted by Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. The campaign was designed to strengthen the Maldives' presence in the Indian market by connecting one of India's most influential cultural figures with one of the world's most sought-after travel destinations.
Badshah, whose music and videos have amassed billions of streams, is one of South Asia's most influential entertainers. His popularity, particularly among younger audiences, makes him a key figure in promoting the Maldives as a travel destination. During his stay, he experienced the country's hospitality, water sports, luxury yacht excursions and elements of Maldivian culture.
Commenting on the campaign, VMC Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree said the partnership with Badshah represented an important investment in strengthening ties with Indian travellers.
"Our aim is to use Badshah's popularity to remind Indian travellers that the Maldives is a nearby, easily accessible destination offering a wide range of unique experiences," Shiuree said.
The content produced during the visit includes Instagram Reels and YouTube vlogs, which will be released across Badshah's social media platforms in the coming weeks. Visit Maldives said the campaign would further reinforce the Maldives' reputation as a leading destination for family holidays, honeymoons and luxury travel.
India remains one of the Maldives' most important tourism markets. Historically, it was the country's largest source market in 2020, 2021 and 2022. In 2023, India accounted for 209,193 tourist arrivals, representing 11.1 per cent of total visitors to the Maldives. As of 19 July this year, 68,933 Indian tourists had visited the Maldives.
