Three SOEs awarded school development projects in 18 islands

The government has awarded construction projects for school related projects in 18 islands to three state-owned companies.
This move follows the cancellation of contracts with companies that failed to initiate or make progress on the assigned work.
The total value of these newly awarded projects is MVR 114.9 million. The handover was formalized at a ceremony where Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu signed the agreements on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
The projects have been handed over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation (RDC).
MTCC received 15 school projects involving the construction of classrooms and multipurpose halls across multiple atolls. Among projects awarded to MTCC are the development of classroom and hall facilities in Shaviyani Bilehfahi, Alifu Alifu Mathiveri, Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo, and Kaafu Gulhi.
MTCC will also construct classrooms in Haa Alifu Maarandhoo, Haa Alifu Molhadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo, Raa Dhuvaafaru, Baa Kudarikilu, Thaa Gaadhiffushi, and Laamu Maavah.
In addition, multipurpose halls will be developed in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram, Haa Dhaalu Naavaidhoo, Raa Innamaadhoo, and Thaa Madifushi.
RDC has been awarded contracts to complete the school buildings in Alifu Alifu Maalhos and Alifu Dhaalu Fenfushi, while Fenaka Corporation has been assigned the project in Meemu Veyvah.
The projects are expected to improve access to quality education and ensure equitable facilities for students across the country.
Minister Shafeeu said that despite the government having cleared a large portion of the MVR 280 million in pending payments from the previous administration, several projects had not progressed.
This lead to cancellation of contracts from underperforming companies and reassign the work to other companies.
