IGMH to launch home care programme for long-term patients

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ is set to introduce a new home care service aimed at improving healthcare access for patients confined to bed due to long-term illnesses.
According to IGMH Medical Director Dr Aminath Zeyba Ahmed, the initiative will expand the existing urban primary health care services to include regular home visits by medical professionals.
Starting after Ramadan, the programme will see doctors and nurses visit registered IGMH patients every three months to conduct health checkups, monitor conditions, and offer guidance to families on proper home-based care.
Dr Zeyba emphasised that only patients registered with IGMH will be eligible, urging interested individuals to enroll to benefit from the service. In addition, IGMH is preparing to launch a dedicated home nursing care programme to support patients recently discharged from the hospital, ensuring continuity of care and better recovery outcomes.
The move marks a significant step toward patient-centered healthcare in the Maldives.
