Bangladesh claim historic bronze after sweeping Afghanistan in ranking match

Bangladesh claimed their first-ever international medal in women’s volleyball on Thursday after defeating Afghanistan in the bronze‑medal match of the Women’s CAVA Cup 2025, held in the Maldives.
Bangladesh secured the bronze with a straight‑sets victory, winning 25–20, 25–20, 25–15 in the third‑place playoff. The achievement marks a historic milestone for the country, whose women’s volleyball program has struggled over the past two years.
Despite the decline, Bangladesh managed to assemble a competitive squad in a short period, selecting players through domestic tournaments. Their improvement was evident throughout the competition: they had already beaten Afghanistan 3–1 in the league round and maintained their dominance in the ranking match.
The four‑nation tournament featured Maldives, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. With Thursday’s win, Bangladesh finished third overall.
The final of the Women’s CAVA Cup 2025 is scheduled for 20:40 hrs, with the match broadcast live on SS TV.
