President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that young people working in resorts near inhabited islands will be given priority in government housing projects.
Speaking at the Youth Coffee with the President forum, President Muizzu identified lack of housing as one of the biggest obstacles to youth empowerment. He noted that housing near resorts allows youth in the tourism sector to work close to their families.
The President announced that in projects of over 800 housing units, a certain percentage will be reserved for tourism sector employees. Youth working in fisheries and those starting families will also be prioritised. The same priority will be given in Male’ City housing projects, he added.
The President further stated that housing projects will be spread across the country, and will not be concentrated in the Male’ area alone.
