Select services on 'Xpat Online' temporarily suspended for system upgrades

The Ministry of Economic Development has decided to temporarily suspend some services provided by the "Xpat Online" system, which provides services to foreigners employed in the Maldives.
The ministry said in an announcement that it is currently working on developing a more efficient system of services for the expatriate community living in the Maldives. Therefore, some services provided through the portal will be suspended from February 26 to March 11 as part of measures taken to strengthen the system.
Work permit fees and work permit passport ad services will remain available during this time.
In 2021, the special online system was introduced to issue quotas and work permits to foreigners.
The government has also decided to pay the deposits made before the introduction of the "Xpat Online" system to the rightful beneficiaries. According to the economic ministry, more than 2,000 people have applied for deposit money, and the state is required to pay over MVR 100 million. However, the funds have yet to be released.
