A youth was stabbed in what appeared to be gang violence in capital Male late Sunday.
According to Maldives Police Service, the incident was reported around 9:00 p.m. near Islamic University of Maldives.
Mihaaru understands that the youth is an 18 year old male and was stabbed around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night. ADK Hospital disclosed early Monday that the youth is in critical condition due to serious head injury.
Meanwhile, Police headquarters stated that 20 people have been arrested and taken into custody over the gang violence.
This incident happened at a time when Police has commenced a major operation over gang violence resurgence in the Maldives. The violence, which resurged after a hiatus of peace, saw a group of youth attack two people on motorbikes last week with hammers, wooden clubs and sharp weapons. Both the group and victims had escaped the scene before the police arrived.
Police took 25 to 30 youth into their custody in the wake of this incident, from which the court has given a remand of 3 days for 15 of them.
