Tourism Ministry statistics show that the number of tourists staying in guesthouses has surpassed 300,000 so far this year.
According to the ministry, 300,763 tourists had stayed at guesthouses as of August 12, accounting for 21.9 percent of all visitors to the Maldives. Resorts remained the most popular choice, hosting 73.3 percent of arrivals.
By the same date, the Maldives had welcomed a total of 1,374,699 tourists this year, with an average of 6,137 arrivals per day. This marks a nine percent increase compared to the same period last year. In comparison, 1,142,927 tourists visited during this period in 2023, and 1,261,503 during the same period last year.
Currently, 1,239 tourist facilities are in operation, including 175 resorts, 890 guesthouses, 158 safari vessels, and 16 hotels, offering a total of 64,219 beds.
