The Ministry of Construction, Housing & Infrastructure has said on Thursday that 1,260 people have been issued land registrations under the Binnveriyaa Scheme so far.
The land registrations for land plots allocated at Gulhifalhu started issuing on July 12 last year.
The previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government had announced to allocate at least 2,000 plots under the Binnveriyaa scheme, but this government decided to increase the number of plots to 3,520. That includes those who asked to transfer their land from Giravaru lagoon to Gulhifalhu.
According to statistics released by the Housing Ministry in X on Thursday, 1,260 land registries have been issued so far. That's 35.8 percent of the total figure set by this government.

The land registrations are being issued in the former Housing Ministry building. The registrations are being issued in the section that was used by the city council.
The Gulhifalhu project started in July last year. The government had earlier announced that the dredging work was awarded to Boskalis of the Netherlands for USD 120 million (MVR 2 billion).
The previous government had taken the draw for the land recipients, but this government has changed the land use plan twice since. The registrations are now being issued after a re-draw on May 30, under the new land use plan.
The interim government has changed the agreement claiming that there was an illegality in the way it had been prepared by the former government.
