Former President and the opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed has been arrested today on the allegations of terrorism.
Reportedly Nasheed was arrested on the allegations of terrorism for imprisoning chief justice of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed during his presidential term.
Police raided the residence of Nasheed’s wife، M. Yagoothuge، and arrested the leader of MDP، upon a court order issued by Criminal Court.
The arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court said، ‘he is to be arrested as he might attempt to flee without presenting himself to the court’.
Reports say a large crowd supporting MDP and JP was gathered near M. Yagoothuge amidst the arrest، and the crowd moved near MMA and in front of Seagull after Nasheed was taken to Dhoonidhoo.
The terrorism charges were also pressed against، current Defense Minister Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel، who was the then Chief of Defense Force، Central Hithadhoo MP Ibrahim Mohamed Didi، who was the then MNDF Male Area Commander، and Tholath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu، who was the then Defense Minister.
