Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening!
Tonight, we get together to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives, I would like to convey our warmest welcome and sincere gratitude to every guest present.
While celebrating its 67th birthday, the People’s Republic of China takes on a new look. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people work hard for prosperity and march forward on the road of building the socialism with Chinese characteristics to make continuous achievements. China has become the 2nd largest economy and the largest goods trading country, with the 2nd biggest oversea investment and the largest foreign reserve, which make it a major player shaping the global political landscape. Nowadays, the Chinese people is building the well-off society in an all-round way.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As China seeks its own development, it actively fulfills its international obligations to be a responsible player. During the recent-concluded G20 Hangzhou Summit, China gave full play to its leadership role being the host country and help member countries to reach a consensus, facilitate pragmatic cooperation among them to inject confidence into the growth of the world economy. The Belt and Road initiative raised by China is echoed by more than 70 countries and international organizations. The construction of large connectivity projects is creating new sources of economic growth for countries alongside the Belt and Road. China is one of the first countries who deposited their legal instruments for formally joining the Paris Agreement to the United Nations, which reveals China’s commitment to its pledge on emission reduction so as to make contributions to the battle against global warming. Also, China is the permanent member of the UN Security Council that dispatches the largest number of peacekeepers and there are more than 2000 Chinese peacekeepers serving in peacekeeping missions. China’s development brings more opportunities to the world.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Since the establishment of the Future-oriented All-round Friendly and Cooperative Partnership between China and the Maldives in 2014, the development of both countries is tightly intertwined. We have maintained high-level exchanges to deepen the political mutual trust. H.E. Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, Speaker of the People’s Majlis attended the 3rd China-South Asian Expo in Kunming as the President’s Special Envoy. Our Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a transit visit to the Maldives and had a friendly meeting with Foreign Minister Mohamed Asim.
