The project to build a new runway to replace the current one in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport will commence this year، says Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb.
Highlighting that the project will commence in September، Adeeb said the loan for the project has been finalized.
He further said the new runway، which costs US $15 million، will be used as the primary runway، and the current one will be used as a parallel taxiway.
The project is contracted to be completed within 135 days، under the grand airport development project، which costs a total of US$ 800 million.
Reports say the new runway is bigger than the current runway.
