8th SAARC Food Bank meeting commences in Maldives

The eight meeting of SAARC Food Bank has begun in Maldives.
While all SAARC countries take part in this meeting، Maldives was chosen to host this year’s meeting at the 7th SAARC Food Bank meeting which was held in New Delhi، India.
The aim of SAARC Food Bank is for all member countries to work together to ensure food security.
During this meeting، amendments will be brought to the agreement of Food Bank and discussions will be held to help the countries which have difficulty in getting food supplies and to better the relations between SAARC Food Bank and international organisations.
Director of SAARC Javed said that although there aren’t much food shortage problems in South Asia، the aim of the food bank is targeted to establish long lasting food security and protection.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of this meeting، Managing Director of STO Ahmed Shaheer said that we must be prepared for the difficulties such as shortage of food during natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis.
Shaheer guaranteed to provide any help the Food Bank needs، on behalf of the government of Maldives.
