Discussions have been held regarding China’s support for the government of Maldives in their efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19 in the archipelago nation.
Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Zhang Lizhong called on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid on Sunday.
The pair discussed a detailed list of vital items in assisting Maldives in its fight against Covid-19, said Lizhong.
Taking to Twitter following the meeting, FM Shahid expressed pleasure in having met the ambassador to discuss the government’s support to the people of Maldives in its fight against Covid-19.
China is a valued partner and a trusted friend that supports Maldivians when such support is “most needed”, wrote Shahid.
Further, he commended the Chinese government’s efforts including local authorities to control the spread of the Novel Coronavirus in the East Asian nation.
The government desires to work alongside China to learn best practices and share experiences in battling the fatal infection, said Shahid.
Moreover, other avenues of cooperation were also discussed alongside China’s support to control the virus.
Ambassador Lizhong assured FM Shahid that China will continue extending support towards the Maldivian government’s efforts as needed.
He also expressed profound gratitude to the sympathy and support extended by the government of Maldives during its most difficult times.
