President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have concluded a four-day visit to Fuvahmulah and Addu City. Cabinet ministers and senior government officials accompanied them during the visit.
The president and first lady hosted a special traditional feast, 'Maahefun,' to commemorate the approach of holy month of Ramadan, for the people of Fuvahmulah and Addu City. The president had shared details of developmental projects planned for the cities during these gatherings. The president also met with the city councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDC) of the cities, discussed pertinent needs of the communities and listened to their grievances.
As part of the tour, President Solih inaugurated the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) in Addu City. The NCPLE is a facility fully equipped with the latest technology and resources required to conduct trainings that would be in line with democratic principles and international best practices. In his remarks at the function, the president stated that the institute would play a pivotal role in the development of the Maldives Police Service.
President Solih also officially inaugurated harbours in Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Meedhoo of Addu City as part of his trip. He also officially launched the work on the biggest ever road development project to be conducted in Addu City, which includes a storm water drainage system.
During the trip, the president officiated the ceremony in which the agreement was signed to reclaim 194.3 hectares of land under the Addu City Reclamation Project. The first lady also inaugurated a new building with 12 classrooms in Maradhoo School.
The president and first lady assessed the progress of government-initiated development projects and toured institutions and government offices to enquire about the service offered in these two cities.
