Imad Solih appointed president of Qaumee Party

Dhivehi Qaumee Party’s (DQP) council has appointed Imad Solih as the party's new president.
Imad Solih’s appointment follows the resignation of DQP's president Dr Hassan Saeed, following the defeat of Jumhoory Party (JP) in the presidential election. Dr Saeed ran as the running mate for JP candidate Gasim Ibrahim.
Dr Hassan Saeed has announced that he has decided to step away from politics.
Imad Solih was the vice president of Qaumee Party.
Speaking to Sun today, Imad said he was appointed president at a meeting of the party council, by unanimous vote, last night.
He said the party’s regulation allows the council to appoint a president or the vice president, if any of the two seats become vacant.
Imad said DQP is currently discussing which party to support for the upcoming runoff of the presidential election. The party will hold a meeting with the PPM leadership today, he said.
