Case of security forces

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a case to Civil Court against the raid of Raalhugan’du area by security forces. Chairman of MDP Legal Affairs Committee Ahmed Abdulla Afeef said that the case was submitted at 8:00 tonight.
Civil Court has also confirmed this, and a hearing is scheduled at 10:00 tonight.
Afeef said that the case which includes charges against the police and military, requests the court to rule that MDP has the right to hold protest activities at Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu. They have also requested the court to order police and military to return the property taken from the area to MDP. Afeef said that Male’ city Council had leased the area to MDP, and security forces do not have the authority to remove any property from this area without the party’s consent.
Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor said at a press conference at President’s Office this afternoon that Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu is under Housing Ministry, and not City Council.
Azima also said that Housing Ministry has handed over part of Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu to Defence Ministry.
