Lawyers of Cherie Blair has started working with the government to respond in the case of President Nasheed
The Maldivian Government has started working with the international team of lawyers of Cherie Blair to respond to the case presented to the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention by the former president Mohamed Nasheed. Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Ministry, Minister Dhunya Maumoon said that the government is preparing to respond to the case presented to the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention by President Nasheed. And that the government is working with Toby Cadman of Cherie Blair’s team of lawyers. “We believe that Nasheed’s case went forward within our laws and international lawns and regulations.” Minister Dhunya Maumoon said. Representing Cherie Blair’s team working with the government, Toby Cadman said that the former president Mohamed Nasheed’s trial went according to national and international legal standards. Cadman said that from the moment President Nasheed was arrested with a court order to his remand, his trial and his medical arrangements went according to the law. He also said that while President Nasheed’s legal team has submitted a case to the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, false information was provided. Toby Cadman said that even if the opposition legal team the arrest of Judge Abdulla Mohamed was not related to President Nasheed, it cannot be hidden by providing false information. And hopes that one it is cleared up to the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, they would rule in the government’s favor. The government has given until 1 July to answer to the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
