A 61-year-old man has been apprehended in connection to the sexual abuse case of a 12-year-old girl in the southern region of the country.
Police were informed of the abuse in the southern island this past Thursday.
Authorities revealed that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday under a court order and that he is now being held in remand in custody until the investigation concludes.
Authorities have not revealed any further information as of yet, including the name of the island the incident took place. This is common practice in cases involving minors as a measure to protect the identity of the victim.
It has been reported that locals of the island gathered in front of the island’s police station, calling for the arrest of the suspect.
