Revenue from air travel levies has surged this year, with collections reaching USD 226.99 million by 11 November, according to figures released by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
The ministry’s Weekly Fiscal Development report shows that the Airport Development Fee generated USD 116.73 million, a 64 percent increase from the USD 64.85 million collected during the same period last year. Revenue from the Departure Tax also rose sharply, totalling USD 110.25 million, a 66 percent year-over-year gain.
Together, receipts from the two charges amounted to USD 226.99 million, reflecting a 75 percent increase compared with the USD 129.70 million recorded in the previous year.
Under current regulations, passengers departing from the Maldives are subject to both charges. Exemptions remain in place for individuals with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers, and children under the age of two.
