MDP issues three-line whip on Nasheed no-confidence vote

The Parliamentary Group (PG) of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to issue a three-line whip on the matter of taking a no confidence vote against Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed to remove him from his position as Speaker.
The motion to release a three-line whip was passed unanimously in today's PG meeting.
Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifau said that all members also agreed that as per the Constitution and the Parliament Regulations, work of the parliament can only be continued after voting on the no confidence motion.
"MDP PG unanimously agrees to do anything that is needed to be done in the interests of democracy in this country," Shifau said.
The no confidence motion has been tabled for Sunday. MDP has called on its general members to attend to view Sunday's parliament session.
Nasheed will be given a duration of 30 minutes to present his response. Each parliamentarian will be given 3 minutes in the debate on the matter.
This is the second time that a no confidence motion has been submitted against Nasheed. After the motion was delayed for various reasons, it was withdrawn during the campaigns for the second round of September's presidential election.
