Maldives Immigration has launched heightened surveillance of public areas frequented by foreign nationals to curb activities that may pose a risk to public safety and order.
According to Immigration, recent observations indicate that some foreign nationals gathering in public spaces have engaged in actions detrimental to the community. As a result, officers from the Immigration Law Enforcement and Compliance Department are actively monitoring such locations, with immediate action planned against any undocumented migrants identified during patrols.
The move follows a recent physical altercation at Artificial Beach, where a local individual filming the incident was also attacked. An Indian national involved in the unrest was detained and deported. Immigration has made it clear that no second chances will be given to any foreign national who threatens public safety.
The government has intensified its efforts to address the longstanding issue of undocumented migrant workers. As part of this initiative, Operation Kurangi is underway across the Maldives, with the biometric data of over 25,000 migrant workers collected by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.
