Hankede Bridge opens to public amid delays and concerns

The Hankede Bridge in Addu City is now open to the public, following concerns over delays in its inauguration.
The bridge was opened to the public at midnight on Saturday. The bridge, constructed under a line of credit from India’s EXIM Bank, has four lanes and is about 1.4 km long.
The Hankede Bridge’s delayed opening sparked public criticism on social media, with many questioning why the completed bridge remained closed. Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar had previously voiced similar concerns about lack of access to the bridge despite it being completed.
