Drug lords’ live free while the young are imprisoned- Ali Hussein

Kendhoo constituency MP Ali Hussein has expressed concern saying that drug lords are living free while the young are imprisoned.
Ali Hussein made this remark speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis yesterday regarding the amendment proposed to the Drug Act.
He said that he believes that those deserving from the convicts should be given rehabilitation and clemency.
“However I do not believe that the drug lords, the crime lords should be subject to such clemencies or given few year jail terms while the children and the weak are given long jail terms,” he said.
He said that he supports the amendment to allow request for clemency only after one by four of the prison sentence is served.
However Ali Hussein said that he does not believe that drug traffickers should be given this opportunity. He said that this will lead to all drug traffickers and drug smugglers to be freed from prisons.
Meanwhile, the Bill on Amendment to Pardon & Clemency Act (Act No. 2/2010) was accepted to Majlis for consideration with a unanimous vote of 62 Members.
The Bill, submitted by Ahmed Thariq, MP for Mahibadhoo, was sent to the Committee on National Security for review.
26 members spoke on the bill during time allocated for debate.
