The remainder of the sentence and the treatment for the health problems of former president Mohamed Nasheed will continue in prison، says Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham.
Speaking at the press conference held at the Ministry of Home Affairs this afternoon، Husham said that Nasheed will be kept at the prison.
He said following a recommendation by the doctors to provide Nasheed a stress-free environment، he was transferred to home detention 21 June، and an MRI test was done three days later.
“Nasheed was kept in home detention for 8 weeks as advised by the doctors، which was due on 19 August. He was taken for doctor’s consultation on 20 August،” Husham said.
Furthermore، Husham said the doctors had asked to change Nasheed completely to home detention. However، Husham said as the request cannot be fulfilled by them، the matter was discussed with the relevant authorities، and was decided to transfer Nasheed back to prison.
In addition، Husham said the doctors advised to take Nasheed for a swim once a day. He said such requests cannot be met at an environment in capital Male’ City.
