First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim has stated that she was in solidarity with nurses and would enact all measures that would benefit the nurses.
She made the statement speaking the ceremony held Friday night to mark the nurse’s day, held in Tajuddin School which was organized by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
She noted the vital role nurses played and stated that it was a humanitarian role that they played. Madam Fathimath noted that such a service cannot be valued in monetary terms. She admitted that they delivered their service in difficult conditions.
Madam Fathimath appealed to all nurses to deliver their service with a smile and stated that nurses played a vital role in keeping up the morale of their patients.
She added that presently around 1100 nurses are serving in the country. She stated that every year nursing students joined the force, which was a clear indication of their importance.
In the ceremony, 41 nurses who had shown a perfect attendance last year were honored. Additionally, nurses who had served for a long term were given service awards.
