Religious scholars have said that those who want religious freedom in Maldives should go and live in other countries that grant it.
Speaking to Miadhu News, regarding a statement made by a Maldivian who left Maldives to practice other religions, a religious scholar said that trying to grant religious freedom in Maldives is not something the Maldivian society would accept. He said that, this is not something the constitutions of the Maldives allows either.
“There are countries with religious freedoms. Why cant they go to these countries and live there. Why do they want to do something in Maldives which majority of the countries population do not want to do?” said the scholar.
Maldives does not prevent people from travelling abroad for any reasons. Hence, those who want to practice other religions are free to leave the country.
Only non-Muslims have the right to practice whatever religion they want to. If a Muslim leaves Islam that is blasphemy. If they do not repent, they should be killed.
"People who want religious freedom ought to go live in countries that grant it” says religious scholars
