Supreme Court of the Maldives has decided to temporarily ban Husnu Suood and Ali Hussain from practicing in Maldivian courts because the court is investigating a case of the two lawyers.
A statement by the Supreme Court said that they were banned from practicing under the regulations related to lawyers.
Suood represented Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in the case submitted to High Court regarding the administration of PPM. Suood has been very publicly criticizing the courts regarding the case. MP Ali Hussain also has been criticizing the judiciary very openly in recent times.
The Supreme Court also made a statement warning the lawyers not to undermine the judiciary. The statement says that lawyers who do undermine the judiciary will be banned from practicing temporarily or permanently depending on the seriousness of the situation.
