UK has granted former President Mohamed Nasheed political refugee status.
Nasheed’s lawyer Hassan Latheef had confirmed the news to various media.
“It is really not important for the Government to carry out their efforts to bring him back,” he said.
Nasheed has been on medical leave from January onward. After he had left for UK, Nasheed had requested for an extension to his medical leave, which the Government had done so.
Criminal Court had delivered a 13 year jail term for illegally detaining a Criminal Court judge.
