Rf. 9 million worth goods imported from Israel last year: Customs

Maldives Customs Service reports that Maldives imported Rf. 9 million worth goods from Israel last year.
During a press briefing held on Wednesday، Commissioner General of Customs Ahmed Mohamed said Rf. 9 million worth of goods were imported from Israel in 2013 and Rf. 3 million worth of goods were imported so far this year.
Commissioner said Maldives does not import much goods from Israel and a significant economical change is near impossible if government completely bans the import of Israel-made products.
However، customs will act on the decision of the government، and already the policies and guidelines are prepared، said the Commissioner.
Commissioner said that Maldives is to boycott products made in Israel and products being supplied by Israel. To enforce it، Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Developments will prepare policies and guidelines. They are to enforce it completely after discussions are fully over، said Commissioner General of Customs.
Further he said there are products of Israel in Maldives market and in bonded warehouses and these will be removed within the next weekend.
“We should be given the permission to take these products from the market، and it should be purged completely. The businessmen and people importing the products should be told of the policies and they should be given a time a frame”، said Ahmed Mohamed.
Government decided to boycott Israel-made products on Monday، this week.
