President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has said that everyone is waiting for the former President Mohamed Nasheed to return and serve his country after his medical treatment.
Speaking at the PPM-MDA event “Hopeful 2016” held at Alimas (Diamond) Carnival tonight, President Abdulla Yamin said that he believes that a guarantee from a former President can be counted on and would return after the medical treatment and serve the country again.
President Yamin said that every single President that the country has had has served a valuable service and it is not easy for him to deny a request to leave for medical treatment form such a person and is reminded of his own past grievances.
The President said that it should not be permissible in the country to detain people against their will, outside the law.
President Yamin said that President Nasheed’s case is at the Supreme Court and there is nothing he can do for the former President and said that it is in the hands of President Nasheed to prove to the Maldivian people that he is innocent.
