President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his visit to the United Kingdom today, following his participation in the High-Level Briefing on Private Capital Mobilisation hosted by King Charles III and organised by the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI).
Undertaken at the invitation of King Charles, the visit brought together heads of multilateral development banks (MDBs) and global financial institutions to discuss accelerating the mobilisation of private capital for sustainable development and global climate transitions.
During the high-level briefing, President Dr Muizzu engaged in discussions on advancing debt-for-climate and debt-for-nature initiatives, strengthening partnerships in green finance, and improving access to climate financing for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). He highlighted the urgent financing needs of SIDS such as the Maldives and outlined pathways to enhance international cooperation in mobilising private investment for climate-resilient development.
The visit provided an important platform to further strengthen the Maldives’ engagement with high-level partners and reinforce the nation’s advocacy for equitable, effective and accessible sustainable finance aligned with global sustainability goals.
