The number of tourist arrivals to Maldives so far this year has reached 728,000.
According to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, this marks an increase of approximately 13 percent. Tourist arrivals to Maldives during the same period in 2023 stood at 644,000.
China has secured the top spot as the leading tourist market with 77,000 arrivals. Following closely, a total of 72,600 tourists arrived from the UK, with Russia following with 72,300 tourist arrivals.
Last year, Maldives observed the highest number of tourist arrivals from India. However, this year, India currently holds the sixth spot in the list of top tourist markets to the Maldives, with a total of 40,000 tourists arriving from India.
The highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year was recorded in February, with a total of 217,392 arrivals. In January, 192,000 tourists arrived, while March saw 194,000 tourist arrivals. As of now, 124,000 tourists have arrived this month.
While a total of 1.8 million tourists arrived in the Maldives in 2023, the government aims to attract two million tourists to the Maldives this year.
While there has been an increase in tourist arrivals, the average duration of tourists' stay in the country has declined over the past month. Currently, tourists spend an average of seven and a half days in the Maldives.
