ADK Hospital has today launched a medical internship program with 20 doctors.
According to a social media post by the hospital, the one-year program, which is recognized by the Medical Council, will teach structured academic lectures, workshops, and clinical components.
Additionally, they stated that these students who have graduated from countries all over the world will become qualified and licensed, skilled doctors.
To complete an internship at ADK, each doctor must pay MVR 14,500 per month, which amounts to MVR 174,000 per year.
According to Medical Council regulations, doctors can only receive a practice license after completing a one-year internship following their 5-6 years of medical studies.
Due to high demand for internships at IGMH (Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital), the Health Ministry requested ADK to start an internship program. As a result, the hospital has sent the ministry detailed costs for running the internship program and requested the government to cover these expenses. However, the ministry has not yet responded.
Internships at the main government hospital, IGMH began in January 2018. Currently, 60 doctors are undertaking internships at that hospital.
