Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has announced yesterday that they are seeking a party to install a 10 megawatt floating solar panel in Addu.
An 8 megawatt solar panel at the Hithadhoo Port area, and 1 megawatt solar panels each at the Maradhoo Harbour area and Hulhumeedhoo Harbour area are to be placed under the Accelerate Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) project which the government is conducting with the aid of World Bank.
Bidding will be opened for interested parties on October 29.
The ministry said that a contractor for this project will be chosen within the first quarter of the coming year. The ministry forecasts that after selecting a contractor and conducting the necessary surveys at the designated locations, actual work can commence in the second quarter of 2025.
The ministry said that once electricity is generated from solar energy, use of fuel can be reduced by 4.43 million litres annually. MVR 35.5 million can be saved from expenditure on fuel per year.
