Bid open to develop 2 resorts near Kelaa

As per President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge, bidding has been opened on Saturday to develop two resorts in the lagoon area near H.A. Kelaa.
The development of two resorts in Kelaa lagoon is a presidential commitment. In furtherance of this commitment, on March 29, the President exercised his authority to determine rural jurisdiction, thereby removing 325.5 hectares of the lagoon area from Kelaa’s jurisdiction.
Nevertheless, on June 29 of this year, the Ministry of Tourism publicized 14 areas designated for resort development, none of which included Kelaa. The announcement specified 11 lagoons, two islands, and a sand bank for such development.
One month subsequent to this announcement, the Ministry of Tourism issued an amendment on Saturday. This amendment stipulates the allocation of 156.2 hectares and 169.3 hectares within the Kelaa lagoon for resort development.
The bid opens for developing 150-bed resorts on both the lagoon sites.
Per the recent ministry announcement, 16 areas are now available for resort development.
Five lagoons in H.A. atoll - five 150-bed resorts
Five lagoons in H.Dh. atoll - five 150-bed resorts
Three lagoons in Shaviyani atoll - five 150-bed resorts
T.H. Kuranndhuvaru - Five 100-bed resorts
T.H. Kandoofushi - Five 100-bed resorts
L. Gasgandufinolhu - Five 100-bed resorts
Challenges persist for resorts and guesthouses in the northern regions of the country, primarily due to high transportation costs.

A potential solution to this issue is seen in the ongoing development of H.Dh. Hanimaadhoo International Airport. Last month, Construction Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib announced that the airport's development was 88.7 percent complete and projected to conclude by September.
President Muizzu has indicated that the current and upcoming years will focus on the execution of development projects and fulfilling commitments during his administration. He has consistently communicated this message to the residents of the islands.
