MACL Launches Training Initiative for 300 Employees Ahead of VIA Terminal Opening

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has commenced a comprehensive training programme for 300 employees in preparation for the 26 July opening of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA). The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to enhancing passenger service at a facility regarded as a significant investment in the nation’s tourism infrastructure.
The sessions, arranged in two phases, are aimed at promoting a service culture defined by “smiles, kindness, and Maldivian hospitality”, according to MACL. The first cohort, more than 150 individuals, including newly recruited personnel and staff transitioning from the existing terminal, is scheduled to complete the programme by 9 July, the company said. Overseeing the curriculum is Masood Ali, a widely respected Maldivian motivational speaker and coach, whose instruction focuses on principles of customer service excellence.
In outlining the company’s goals, Ali Mushtaq, Deputy Chief Officer of Passenger Service, said delivering exceptional service remains MACL’s foremost priority. He pointed to the organisation’s concerted effort to equip employees with the capabilities required to operate effectively in the new terminal environment.
Building on that objective, Misbah Ahmed, General Manager of Learning and Development, described the training as deliberately structured to reflect national values of sincerity and hospitality. He characterised the terminal as a spacious and fully equipped facility designed to support a high standard of passenger care.
The terminal, scheduled to open in conjunction with Independence Day celebrations, is envisioned as a modern, high-capacity hub. Staff training and operational preparedness continue apace, forming central pillars of MACL’s final-phase rollout.
