The Criminal Court has found Ali Manik guilty of supporting a terrorist organization and sentenced him to five years in prison. Ali Manik was arrested during the anti-terrorism operation conducted after the attack on Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed in May 2021.
The Court found Mohamed Thasleem of Haa Alif atoll Hoarafushi, who was arrested together with Ali Manik not guilty.
Although Ali Manik was sentenced to five years in prison, he will only have to spend an additional 2 years and 9 months in jail, considering the time he has already spent in detention.
The Prosecutor General's Office said that they will appeal the case of Thasleem once they receive the case report from the Court.
Other individuals were also charged in connection with the bomb attack, and their cases are being heard separately. Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, who actively participated in the attack, has already been found guilty and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Ali Manik was previously imprisoned in connection with the confrontation against the defense forces in Alif Alif Atoll Himandhoo in 2007.
