Former President Mohamed Nasheed has praised long-serving lawmaker Abdulla Shahid after he announced his resignation as a parliamentarian.
In a tweet on Friday night, Nasheed highlighted Shahid’s contributions during the government transition in 2008 and 2018.
Also praising Shahid’s work as a speaker, Nasheed expressed confidence that he will continue contributing to the nation.

During his 25 years in parliament, Shahid, as well as being a speaker, represented North-Henveiru and Keyodhoo constituencies in parliament. He was also a member of the committees that drafted the current ‘green’ Constitution and the earlier ‘blue’ Constitution.
Announcing his resignation, Shahid said he will next be working in President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government but did not disclose any details.
