Elections Commission has on Sunday given lawyer Abdulla Haseen the approval to form a new political party.
The Commission made the announcement via its official twitter account on Sunday, adding that it has given the approval to complete all necessary procedures to form 'Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party'.
The prominent lawyer, who is a former member of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), applied to form a new political party on July 15. The Commission denied the request on 24th July.
While he left MDP in July, Haseen assured that he does not have any issues with the party.
Furthermore, he emphasized that this new party 'is not with or against any political parties', and emphasized that the purpose of Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party 'is to ensure labour rights and establish social justice'.
