Police: Nasheed

Maldives Police Service has said that they are not receiving the expected cooperation from the family of the former President Mohamed Nasheed in the investigation of the forge letter that states that the former president was permanently moved to house arrest.
Speaking at the press conference today, the Head of the Crime Investigation Command, Chief Superintendent Hamdhoon Rasheed said that although the former President’s family shared the video footage of the man entering the residence with the forged letter, Police have requested more CCTV footage from the residence.
But President Nasheed’s family has refused to share the footage and it is deeply upsetting.
“We went to find the evidence for the investigation of that (forged) letter. But it’s sad that the family refused to cooperate.” Chief Superintendent Hamdhoon Rasheed said.
The Police took the hard drive where the CCTV footage from M. Yagoothuge was stored last night with a court order.
Chief Superintendent Hamdhoon said that the letter given by President Nasheed’s defense team was a copy of the letter given to President Nasheed by a man in a tie. When the Police requested the original, Superintendent Hamdhoon said that the family of President Nasheed said that they have sent the original abroad to authenticate it.
“President Nasheed’s defense team also submitted the same case to us (the Police). That is the case of a letter. So we are conducting a forensic investigation. We are first gathering evidence. We will question those need to be questioned after gathering the evidence.” Chief Superintendent Hamdhoon said.
Superintendent Hamdhoon said that the Police would also check to see if there are any differences between the footage shared by the former President’s defense team and the footage collected under a court order last night. But that would be clear after the forensic investigation and the information would be shared as soon as it is complete, says the Superintendent.
