The Maldives Police Service has launched special operations to curb what has been described as an annual spike in crime ahead of News Year’s day.
The operations are to begin on Thursday, and officers will be deploying the k-9 squad in to help them in their efforts.
The operations are primarily led by the Drug Enforcement Department.
“We aim to stop the use of drugs and alcohol in Malé and its administrative divisions”, a statement from the police says.
All operational police departments and the Maldives Customs Service will also participate in the operations.
