Speaker Nasheed discharged from hospital in Germany

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed's family has revealed he has been discharged after receiving treatment in a German hospital.
Speaker Nasheed was receiving treatment for the injuries sustained after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was triggered near his residence on May 6. Nasheed underwent a 16-hour operation at ADK Hospital in Male’ after the attack, and was taken to Germany on May 13 for further treatment.
The ADK medical team that treated Nasheed stated he had sustained life-threatening injuries in the attack, which could have been fatal. The team of doctors stated Nasheed had to undergo hours of surgery to extract shrapnel that were lodged inside his body, which had damaged his ribs and vital organs, and that one piece of shrapnel had been one centimeter away from his heart.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested four suspects over the attack, including the individual who allegedly detonated the IED and the owner of the motorcycle to which the IED was attached. Furthermore, a special committee consisting of members of the President's Office and the Attorney General's Office is conducting an intelligence audit on the national security services over the attack. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also appointed a special envoy to monitor the investigation, prosecution and trial of the terrorist attack.
