The opportunity to qualify to World Championship through Central Asian Volleyball Association’s (CAVA) Club Volleyball Tournament is open according to Volleyball Association of Maldives.
The CAVA Men’s Champions League is slated to commence on Thursday; July 17th is the beginning for this qualifier according to the local association. The winning team from this tournament will get the opportunity to compete in the AVC Club Champions League, the largest volleyball competition in Asia.
The Champion team of the AVC Club Champions League guarantees entry to the World Championship according to the Volleyball Association, which added this would be a significant achievement.
A total of six different countries are competing in the CAVA Men’s Champions League which includes two local clubs; HDC and Dhivehi Sifainge Club along with four international teams including Kazakhstan’s Zaik VC, Kyrgyzstan’s Bischek, Help Nepal Sports Club from Nepal and Sri Lanka Ports Authority from Sri Lanka.
Each team will get the opportunity to go against the remaining teams in the competition, with the two teams with the highest scores getting the chance to compete in the finals. A ranking match to select the second runner-up will also be held between the teams ranked third and fourth, and a play-off is scheduled between the fifth ranking and sixth ranking teams.
At the pre-tournament press conference, President of CAVA and Volleyball Association of Maldives, Mohamed Latheef highlighted the importance of this Champions League in CAVA’s history.
“This tournament is significant since it is a pathway to qualify to FIVB World Qualification, so CAVA Champions League’s winners will qualify to AVC Champions League, and the team that wins the AVC league will advance to FIVB World Championship, which highlights the importance of this tournament,” Latheef stressed.
The CAVA Men’s Champions League, scheduled for July 17th will continue until Wednesday next week.
All contending teams have already flown to the Maldives.
The tournament’s media partner, SSTV will be broadcasting the matches live.
