The government of Maldives has announced a vacancy for a Civil Service Commission (CSC) member.
The President's Office said the vacancy is due to the commission's Deputy President Ibrahim Rasheed resigning from his post. As such, applications will be accepted until March 19, the office said.
Rasheed's resignation was submitted while the Parliament was in the process of seeking his dismissal.
The allegations against him include complaints by some CSC employees over recruitment issues and having too close ties with the opposition, MDP's, leaders and members.
According to the parliamentary regulations, a decision on the removal of a member of an independent institution can only be taken after the committee approves the motion and sends it to the parliamentary floor. The Speaker would then announce the motion and refer it to the Committee for a decision.
Ibrahim Rasheed was appointed to the CSC in September 2020.
