Maldivians living in Sri Lanka have donated essential supplies to support Sri Lankans following Cyclone Ditwah which brought widespread devastation across the island nation.
The Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka collected and handed over 78 boxes of essential items, including clothing, medicine, food and water. According to the High Commission’s Minister Counsellor, Haleemath Shizna, the Maldivian community in Sri Lanka donated the items within just two days after the High Commission opened its doors for donation.
This contribution follows wider support from the Maldives, including USD 50,000 and 25,000 cases of canned tuna donated by the Maldivian government, and USD 800,000 raised through a national telethon organised by Maldivian media outlets, all of which have officially been handed over to Sri Lanka.
