Development projects will advance at full speed over the next three years: Vice President

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that the coming three years will see the rapid advancement of key national development projects. He made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Public Service Media (PSM) to mark the second anniversary of the current Administration.
Reflecting on the Administration’s first two years, the Vice President noted that he fully understood the country’s condition when he assumed office. He explained that, during the initial months, the Government faced significant financial and administrative challenges that slowed the progress of several development projects, particularly due to the opposition holding a majority in Parliament. He added that political efforts within the legislature to obstruct the work of a legitimately elected Government further hampered early progress.
The Vice President emphasised President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ambitious vision for the nation despite challenges, stating that the next three years will witness the implementation of several major projects of long-term national importance, aligned with the President’s strategic direction.
He went on to commend President Dr Muizzu’s dedication, noting that the President has consistently prioritised initiatives that deliver direct and tangible benefits to the Maldivian people. With strengthened institutional mandates and improved planning frameworks now in place, he added that development efforts can proceed more efficiently and transparently – clear indicators of sound governance.
The Vice President further praised the President’s tireless work ethic and active engagement during his visits to the atolls, underscoring his hands-on approach to the administration of the State.
Highlighting the Administration’s continued commitment to enhancing national self-sufficiency, he pointed to the accelerated development of Velana International Airport, the expansion of domestic air services, and improvements to the national transport network as key priorities.
He concluded by assuring the public that the Administration remains steadfast in upholding the trust placed in it by the people. He reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to addressing the nation’s most pressing challenges, safeguarding fundamental rights, increasing national income, and strengthening economic and social stability.
