MNDF’s annual readiness fire drills underway in capital

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service has launched this year’s Jarraafa exercise, its annual fire and rescue training program, on Sunday.
First introduced in 2013, Jarraafa is designed to test the MNDF Fire Emergency Operations Plan and strengthen firefighting capabilities, particularly in high‑rise areas. The exercise also evaluates how firefighters apply their knowledge, skills, and resources to manage large and complex incidents.
The drills involve multi‑agency participation, with state institutions and private organizations, including the National Disaster Management Authority, local hospitals, and the Maldives Red Crescent, working alongside MNDF units to ensure coordinated responses to emergencies.

Training is scheduled for Sunday and Monday across Male', Hulhumale', Villimale', Thilafushi, and the waters near Male' city. Fire lorries with sirens will be deployed on the streets during the exercises.
Scenarios practiced include high‑rise fires, rescue operations, hazardous material incidents, and road accidents. The program also emphasizes problemsolving and accelerating emergency services.
The MNDF Fire and Rescue Service, mandated with civil defence responsibilities in the Maldives, regards Jarraafa as a key component of its annual readiness training.
