President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday launched six infrastructure projects in R. Dhuvaafaru, valued at MVR 666.73 million, as part of a broader push to improve public services and island connectivity. The projects are being implemented by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The President also inaugurated the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus service, marking a milestone in local mobility. The ceremony was attended by Cabinet ministers and senior officials from MTCC and other government institutions.
The six MTCC projects launched:
Land dredging and beach protection  
Construction of a waste management centre  
Development of an outdoor volleyball court  
Phase III of road construction  
Construction of Dhuvaafaru Police Station  
Port development
The dredging and beach protection project and the police station will be completed within 360 days at a cost of MVR 208.96 million.  
The waste centre and volleyball court were awarded for MVR 3 million, while the road construction project is valued at MVR 312.66 million.  
The port development is scheduled for completion in 15 months, with a budget of MVR 142.11 million.

President Muizzu also inaugurated:
A fuel skid to provide subsidized fuel for fishermen  
A new hospital building and upgraded health centre  
The “Irun Hakatha” solar energy programme  
A Maldives Islamic Bank ATM  
A hostel project for MNU students
The visit coincided with Fishermen’s Day commemorations, but also with ongoing protests by the Bodu Kanneli Masverinnge Union (BKMU). Demonstrators have accused the government of failing to fulfill promises on fish purchases and payments. Protests were held on Wednesday and Thursday, and union leaders have called for urgent intervention.
